Full-Size Daleks

If this is the first time you've ever thought about building a Dalek, then you've come to the right place. Many members have had the dream of building their very own Dalek prop since they were children. We are here to help you realise that dream. Building a full-size Dalek may seem like a daunting task, but by breaking it down into sections and being methodical, it is possible for most people with basic DIY skills to build a really impressive and convincing Dalek replica.

Full size Dalek parts

Full-size Daleks can be built using many varied techniques and materials. The Showcase and Autopsy sections on this site and the Builders Progress Diaries on the Project Dalek Forum will help you decide what methods and materials are best suited to your circumstances and abilities. The information in the Dalek Builder's Workshop Manual is specifically aimed at full-size builders and is highly recommended.

The information contained here, on the main site and on the Project Dalek Forum should be plenty to get you on your way to building some great quality (and accurate) Dalek parts, for your own personal build.

All our plans are at full scale, presented in millimetres. The older Daleks from the 60s and 70s also have some dimensions presented in inches (alongside the metric values), where it is logical to do so. This is because inches were the primary unit of measurement in the UK, back when the classic Daleks were built.

Note that all aspects of full-size Dalek building presented here and on the Project Dalek Forum are aimed squarely at adults. While older children have occasionally used the given techniques and plans to produce some great Daleks from cardboard and other safe materials, the bulk of the build information involves materials such as wood, fibreglass and sheet metal... not ideal for younger enthusiasts. Younger members are welcome, but should always work (and post on the Forum) under the close supervision of a responsible adult. Your safety and that of your children is your own responsibility.
